Religion - Just say NO

This is my first in a number of blogs on institutions for those that require institutionalization: Religions.

The Earth is flat.
Thousands of years ago when slavery was common practice and hygiene was optional, people started to wonder about the world around them.

Although at that point their brains were large enough to make observations of their surroundings, their conclusions were primitive and left much to be desired. Their beliefs described the world as they saw it. The Earth being flat, the sky is its ceiling, and above it lives the man that cries tears of rain, and shines light upon us when we do good.

Making up the rest as they went along, these pioneers of ignorance created such notions as a life after death to ease the pain of loss, Heaven and Hell to have a reason to behave "civil" and a big man that lives in the clouds and looks over them to compensate for the biological desire to be nurtured and disciplined that is in all primates from birth.

As much as we would like to believe it, and as hard as it may be to accept, sadly, there is no life after death, a loss of a life is tragic but still no reason to fool ourselves with illusions.

There is no Heaven or Hell. If you kill someone, your punishment is prison and in some primitive cultures maybe death. If your only excuse to do good in life, is the prospect of the consequences of your actions after death, then maybe you ought to stick with religion, since it's the only thing that saves you from yourself.

There is no "God". Please, get over it already. God was made up thousands of years ago to explain the other 99.999% of things Homo Sapiens could not explain. Since then the list of things humans can't explain with facts (science) has become so short, it's hardly a good enough excuse to believe in a superior being.

It is not even a question whether a god exists or not; It does not exist. If you doubt this fact, you need education, preferably in a school. If you have problems you need to get off your chest, you need a good friend, maybe a therapist or maybe even a pet. An invisible friend is not the answer.

One of the root causes of god worshipping is a lack of education.
It struck me not so long ago that religions usually originate from, spawn and flourish towards places and people with either an apparent lack of education or in some cases where hallucinogens play a role.

It's quite understandable that people with little or no education rather believe in the easy answer of religion, than to educate themselves in complex sciences, but it is societies responsibility to make sure that academia and what we teach children isn't mistaken or mixed with dogma and religion. The results are catastrophic if they are, as apparent in for example in the Taliban rule of Afghanistan during the 90's or the current US administration.

End of part one.
In part two we'll take a look at morals and how religion have nothing to do with them.
